Description
Kroon Hall, the newest addition to the School of Forestry & Environmental Studies (F&ES), is the “greenest” building on Yale’s campus and is set to exceed the platinum LEED rating. This remarkable achievement is due to the use of solar panels and solar hot water heaters, green construction materials, sustainably-harvested wood and a geothermal energy system. One environmentally sensitive landscaping feature is a pond with a rainwater recycling system that collects run-off for reuse throughout the building.
A symbol of the School's ideals and values in built form, Kroon actively connects F&ES students, faculty, staff, as well as visitors, with the natural world by showcasing the latest developments in green building technology while providing a healthy and supportive environment for work and study. The building includes classrooms, research space, offices, a library and an auditorium and exhibition space known as the Yale Environmental Center.
