Class of 1954 Environmental Science Center — 2001

Description

Completed in 2001, the three-story Class of 1954 Environmental Science Building (ESC) houses interdepartmental laboratories and research space. The ESC is home to the Yale Institute for Biospheric Studies and contains classrooms and offices for the departments of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, Geology & Geophysics, and Anthropology, as well as the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. The ESC also includes office, storage, and curatorial space for the adjacent Peabody Museum of Natural History. The brick structure with limestone trim, designed by David M. Schwarz Architectural Services of Washington, D.C., presents a modern interpretation of the Collegiate Gothic architectural style seen across campus in the residential colleges and in the Peabody Museum building next-door.
